Besides food, the main purpose of me going to Bangkok is to go shopping, of course. It was really a “shop till you drop” trip. Pratunam market and Chatuchek market were really hot places with lots of cheap bargains while Central Chidlom, Central World Plaza were upmarket shopping centres, nothing much to buy there. MBK and Siam Square are shopping centres too but more like our Far East Plaza and suburban malls, just that they house more unique stuff. One good place to visit is Suan Lom night market, if you don’t like to go Chatuchek. Suam Lom is cool at night and trendy and carry most stuff that Chatuchek has. The variety and prices cant beat Chatuchek though as this market is more of a touristy place.
Anyway, let me list down what I bought and don’t be too shocked!!
5-6 tops, 4-5 bottoms, 3 pairs of pointed toe shoes (very nice & cheap $8-$12!!), 9 pairs of earrings, at least 5 types of funky necklaces, some bracelets, 4 t-shirts & 1 chain for my brother, 2 shirts & 1 belt for my dad, a nightie for my mum and last but not least titbits!! Most of my stuff cost less than $15 per piece. On hindsight, it doesn’t seem like a lot of stuff. I could have bought more but my feet were crying out for mercy at the end of each day.
All in all, I spent approx $500+ so converted to baht should be about 12,000 baht. But I spent at most $450, including airport taxes. Haha. Also, this amount of course includes food and transport. I even had enough money to lend some of my friends who had not enough. Haha. Thank goodness I changed all money in Singapore and need not go through the hassle of looking for a money changer. The rate in Thailand isn’t as good as Singapore, or rather the moneychanger that I went to. Hehe. So, I got a very good rate!! Yoohoo…
To conclude, it was a good trip, bonding with my church friends, shopping and eating and exploring. Last but not least, when I got back, I had a lovely Valentine’s surprise! He came to meet me or welcome me back as he terms it, at the airport even though it was slightly past midnight. So sweet. Hehe.
