Lift Finale

Poetic justice. I am so so so so so so so so so so so relieved. I am so so so so so so so so so glad I wrote that letter.

Well, following the lift incident, I faxed a letter to the security management of IP quickly and got a prompt response. The manager was very nice and sympathetic. He was also very understanding as he said he had come across such cases before with impatient people who cannot wait a few minutes for another lift. Very good customer service! He should be in the service line. Haha.

I had asked which floor the guy stopped at - 35th floor apparently. Menace! The manager somehow put me at ease immediately as he told me what he can view in the videos all over IP. I was speaking the truth in my letter! Apparently the man was running towards my lift and I couldn’t see him as it was at my blind spot. The cameras actually caught him kicking and pounding the door and everything that happened inside could be seen too! Hurray!

Measures taken:
- The face of the man is now on the security desk.
- The manager will try to find him and talk to him as the manager feels that pounding and kicking on the lift door is unacceptable and uncivilized behaviour. That mad man could damage public property. (I don’t care whether the manager really follows up, at least the security knows! Safety first.)

Thank God.

I will never go up in an empty lift alone at IP ever again.

Yet, suddenly, I am quite proud of my “ang moh” (English). Haha. Below are excerpts of my letter:

ATTN: Security Manager
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Dear xxx

I sincerely bring to your attention a disturbing incident which I encountered on the morning of 6 June 2006 at approximately 9am to 9.10am in the third lift on the left, the nearest to a shop display window, in the lobby for medium rise 21st floor to 35th floor at International Plaza.

The lift door had almost closed and I was alone in the lift when a bespectacled man, approximately 1.74m tall, perhaps in his late thirties to forties, shouted from outside, kicked and pounded the lift door furiously and very loudly too xxxxxxxxx description of what happened xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Given that all lifts in International Plaza are fitted with a camera, I beseech the management and security to be on the alert for this man, given his violent tendency xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Last but not least, I would like the security management to review their camera recording and inform me which floor the man stopped at xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

I look forward to your favourable and prompt response.

Yours sincerely,
Amy
